Officially: powers & self-defense training; rescuer of kids in the shadier factions via Allison’s underground pipeline project

Unofficially: Sometimes on the missions to save the kids, he ends up low-key trying to recruit more of the like-minded to Krakoa.

⧓ AMBITION:

To give young imPorts a safe place to learn and live, to ensure he never sees any kids grow up used for their powers the way he and his siblings were.

⧓ BACKSTORY:

Ports in at 18 and mostly falls into step with White Tower because it’s where his family ended up, and it was a familiar sort of echo of what he’d always known; though that was also the very reason he hated every second of being there, after already defecting from The Umbrella Academy nearly a year before, back home.

Diego wants something different, and better, than what he was raised in, knows it must be possible, but he doesn’t have the organization skills it would take to pull that kind of thing together, so he bides his time and does what he can with the clout that comes with being one of the imPort Elites in White Tower.

The moment Allison declares her plans about something better in the works with a network of like-minded people she’s connected with, an orphan girl in tow, Diego is immediately on board.

While he isn’t on the Council, Diego has been a part of the building of Krakoa almost from the outset; he’s a big advocate of the life they’ve built, a safe haven for imPort children to grow up, far away from the faction wars and dangerous attitudes that would break these kids in ways not a single one of them deserved. Diego helps with powers & self-defense training; works on teams that get kids from other factions seeking safety, to Krakoa and sometimes, less officially, goes on scouting missions to give the factionless imPorts in the world an option for something better to turn to.

These unofficial scouting missions are how he met Lila, an apparently factionless imPort who didn’t know where her loyalties should lie. She claimed to be hearing from a lot of people about a lot of things in place in various parts of the world, but it was hard to choose. Diego did his best to explain what life in Krokoa was like, to sell her on the idea of it, but she wasn’t easy to pull in. This spanned several months, and little did he know she was working as a spy for another faction.

Over time, the pair grows close and Lila begins to see the truth in the way things are done in Krakoa. She’s all but officially defected from her old faction, feeding them false leads and fake information by the time Diego takes her to be officially brought into Krakoa. They’ve been together, as a relatively healthy, functional couple for 2-3yrs and a few months ago, they got married on what started as a whim-idea that suddenly became impossible to ignore as necessary for both of them.

His relationship with his family is tighter and stronger than it’s ever been, closer than they were even in their Academy days, no one around to isolate them or tell them what their purpose in the world was. For the first time in their lives, they could really live, be a family, . There are weekly Sunday dinners among them, despite seeing each other regularly (maybe even daily) on the islands, and Diego is one of the goofiest uncles to his niece, Claire.

Since Josh turned up missing, he’s kept an ear to the ground for anything that sounds like it might lend to a clue of his whereabouts, every intent in the world to immediately go to the Council at the first, slightest hint of something whether it sounds legitimately credible or not.
